His proper title is Senator Michael Duffy but he doesn’t seem to like it much, at least not when talking to his fellow journalists.
“Call me Mike,” said Mike Duffy, just before sitting down for a quick scrum with a quartet of reporters from local papers in the Prescott-Russell region. He was the special guest of honour at Saturday’s Spring Fling Banquet in Wendover for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell MP Pierre Lemieux.
The veteran political journalist, who made his mark in reporting for both the CBC and CTV with his investigations on The Hill beat at Parliament, made one observation about his new position on the other side of the political news fence.
“I think senators work harder than we journalists ever gave them credit for,” he said, chuckling. “We work 12 hours a day for three days each week. The Senate is no longer the ‘retirement home’ for old fogies from politics.”
